Is it time to nationalize Nuclear power plants to insure money does not get in the way of safety?

GE marketed their plants as being economical to build. Why would you do that? Why would you not use the best resources, fasteners etc. that the human can make at any cost due to the power of the material in use? I just think some things need to be removed from the free market. We can`t afford to wait for a disaster to create the demand in the free market for safer plants. If the resources are available then use them at any monetary cost in the name of human safety.
